Design and Create your Own Journal!

Image of a Journal

Literally anything you write on can become a journal. The medium you choose can tell the story of your life almost as much as the words inside of it.

A journal can also be as long, short, big, small, heavy, light as you want it. One time when I was hitch hiking across Nevada, I forgot to bring my journal. I knew it was an important time to be keeping notes and thoughts, so I bought a tiny notepad at a gas station for 99 cents. A journal can even be one page long if you want.

The first choice you have to make is whether you want to create your journal using recycled items around your house or purchase specific papers, covers, inks, etc. It’s all a form of expression. Either one will show your creative and artistic side because you opted to create rather than buy a journal.

I personally think creating a journal from recycled materials is more rewarding. It’s a chance to recycle things around the house and even clean up the clutter. It gives your journal soul and personality you wouldn’t even plan for.

Second, you have to choose whether you want to create a journal using a threaded binding or a glued binding. Either one will work, but there are slight differences.

A threaded journal looks like this:

While a glued journal looks like this:
